Forensic Laboratory Analyst closes 3/14/23 Job at Oakland County Michigan
*This position is 100% grant-funded*
Under general supervision, performs the scientific examination, testing, and analysis of evidence by employing laboratory methods. Evaluates and analyzes results, prepares written opinions concerning the identification and comparability of evidence and testifies as an expert witness in a court of law. May be assigned to a day, afternoon or midnight shift, including some weekend work and may be assigned for specific periods to on-call duty for emergencies occurring during a non-duty shift. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department-specific software to complete assignments.

1. Possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science or closely related area.; AND
2. Have successfully completed one course in statistics and/or population genetics; AND
3. Have successfully completed at least one course, with a minimum of nine (9) cumulative semester hours, in each of the required subject areas:
a. Biochemistry
b. Genetics
c. Molecular Biology
NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://naces.org/members.html). The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.
4. Have at least six (6) months of full-time forensic human DNA laboratory work experience conducting the identification and evaluation of biological samples and/or evidence.
5. Have not been convicted of a violation of criminal law.(Criminal law generally includes all offenses except traffic law, conservation law and liquor law. In general, conviction for a violation of criminal law is automatically disqualifying.)
6. Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of Country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.
7. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, required for this classification.
8. Successfully complete the six-month probationary period.

1. Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.

A field investigation will be conducted covering an evaluation of employment, school, home, criminal, military, or other personal records.Any conviction or convictions for moving traffic violations, accidents, non-moving traffic violations, or violations of other laws will be reviewed by the Sheriff's Office before an applicant can be appointed. Information obtained during the background investigation will be considered in the hiring decision.Convictions of the Domestic Violence Statute will be a disqualifying factor.
3. Shall submit a DNA sample for inclusion into the DNA Staff Index.
