Position: Bartender Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:The purpose of this job is to prepare beverages requested by customers according to standard operating procedures, and to provide courteous, prompt table-side service to guests in accordance with the LSOP. The bartender must provide an atmosphere of welcome and warmth generated by a sincere concern for all guests’ satisfaction.

Accountabilities: All beverages must be prepared and served in a timely and accurate manner following recipe specifications. Presentation must be consistent using fresh garnishes at all times. Payment must be received and accurately recorded. Beverage par levels must be maintained by requisitions as needed. Promotions of specials and up selling are expected. Food service when required. To make sure all glassware is polished once they have been washed.

Qualification Standards

Education & Experience:

  • At least 3 years of progressive experience food & beverage
  • Previous Bartending experience required
  • ServSafe & TIPS or similar acceptable alcohol training Certificate preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Tools & Equipment:

  • Calculator, computer, telephone
  • Credit card authorization machine, cash register, touch screen monitor, printer
  • Wine opener, carpet sweeper or vacuum, hot plates, coffee and espresso machines, Juice Machine, CO2 Systems, keg tap systems, blender, sound system, wine opener, glass ware, measuring cups and related equipment

Work Environment:

Physical Requirements:

  • Long hours sometimes required
  • Medium work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Must occasionally transport beer kegs and cases of liquor, beer, wine, etc.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time without sitting or leaning
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach with your body and arms
  • Near Vision – ability to see details at close range

  • Mathematical Reasoning - Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions

Other Abilities, Skills, Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of F&B procedures and serving standards
  • Health Department rules and regulations
  • Participation in Department meetings
  • Knowledge of local liquor laws and regulations
  • Bartending skills- specific knowledge of liquor, beer, wine, mixed drinks and mock tails

Duties & Functions

Essential:

  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service oriented manner
  • Maintain regular attendance, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, as defined in the hotel handbook, when working
  • Comply at all times with New Castle standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations
  • Complete opening/closing duties according to standards set forth
  • Prepare drinks for guest and beverage servers using specifications
  • Present drinks to guests, obtain payment for them, and record accurately
  • Have full knowledge of entire menu, as well as daily specials, desserts, etc.
  • Provide attentive service, focusing on guests’ needs.
  • Receive payment for food and beverages provided and provide change and receipt to guests
  • Clear and clean tables when guests leave, return dishes/glasses to be washed
  • Wash all glassware and maintain a sanitary environment in accordance with local health codes
  • At no time shall a drink be served to the restaurant staff or the bartender on the floor
  • Make change from cash register
  • Complete beverage requisitions to maintain par levels as needed, using full bottle for empty method
  • Monitor guests for intoxication and report such findings to Manager immediately
  • Keep an accurate record of all checks and balances to be presented in a daily report
  • Process credit card and room charges
  • Complete tip reporting / closeout sheet at end of shift
  • Keep immediate supervisor fully informed of all problems or matters requiring his or her attention
  • Insure compliance with all local liquor laws, and health & sanitation regulations
  • Insure compliance with departmental S.O.P.s
  • Insure that all side work is completed before leaving property
  • Insure that all restock and cleaning is performed at close of shift
  • Be up to date on all guest services, promotions and events in the Hotel
  • Accurately complete daily cash out report

Marginal

  • Other duties as required
  • Meet and greet guests
  • Keep lounge area clean and free from debris
  • Participate in department meetings

All New Castle employees are special safety and security agents and, whenever possible, are to report of correct and safety or security deficiencies. They are to be constantly on the alert for any unsafe or unsecured areas which bay threaten the wellbeing of guest or fellow employees or the maintenance and security of the hotel property and react accordingly.

This hotel functions 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. All employees must realize that we schedule as business dictates.
