Position Summary

The primary responsibility of this engineer is the design, development and testing of mechanical and electromechanical products and systems as per customer and product requirements. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be an integral part of a project team responsible for designing and developing a product from concept to release. In addition to solid mechanical engineering practices, you will be expected to be familiar with a wide variety of mechanical design tools, define and execute comprehensive validation plans to ensure that the design meets key specifications, as well as source parts in the most cost-effective manner. You will also be directly involved in setting specifications and transitioning the product from engineering to production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical and electromechanically system to project requirements and project budget constraints.
  • Confirms system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods; testing properties.
  • Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
  • Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests from program managers, customers, and manufacturing.
  • Effectively diagnose technical issues and propose reasonable solutions.
  • Take ownership of goals, project schedules, and milestones.
  • Reviews and approves product specifications and customer user documentation for the product.
  • Ability to act as a reviewer and provide feedback to the process flow on the Engineering Change Request (ECN).
Requirements:

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting proof of concept programs, applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, Pneumatics, heat transfer, and materials.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Strong understanding of 3D modeling (Creo Parametrics preferred; Solidworks or Catia transferable)
  • Understanding of injection molding, 3D printing, sheet metal and CNC machining.
  • Ability to perform finite element analysis (FEA) on parts preferred.
  • Passion for learning about and working with test and measurement industry technologies.
  • Quickly learns applicable technology, systems and commercial off the shelf components.
  • Multitask between concurrent projects.
  • Listen attentively and grasp fast-paced technical conversation.
  • Desires to continually take on new and challenging tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills.

Education, Experience, and Other Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree.
  • 2 or more years of experience to achieve sufficient level of proficiency and independence for this position.
  • Experience with electrical engineering documentation (such as schematics, interconnected diagrams, block diagrams) and customer requirements documentation.
  • Experience with and knowledge of electromechanical packaging design preferred.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards preferred.
  • PLM and/or MRP/ERP experience preferred.
  • Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident (due to company contracts falling under the ITAR).

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
