NESR- Systematic Review Librarian Job at Panum Group
The Nutrition Evidence Systematic Review (NESR) team is housed within the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP). NESR staff collaborates with stakeholders and leading scientists to produce nutrition research using rigorous methodology. NESR team objectively review, evaluate, and synthesize research to inform Federal nutrition policy and programs including the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA).
Primary Responsibilities:
Primary responsibility of the Systematic Review Librarian is providing the Nutrition Evidence Systematic Review (NESR) teamexpertise in creating comprehensive rigorous search strategies in multiple databases to support systematic reviews, rapid reviews, scoping reviews, and living systematic reviewprojects focused on Federal nutrition policy and programs including the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Applicants should also have strong knowledge of study design and research principles, library information science and experience in conducting research on topics related to nutrition and public health, in critically evaluating evidence-based nutrition/health literature, or developing science-based nutrition related policy, program guidance or clinical practice guidelines. Knowledge of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and experience using systematic review and meta-analysis methods is preferred.
Applicants should have experience in coordinating multiple complex tasks, managing research projects, and facilitating expert groups. Candidates should have strong written and oral communication skills and should be able to work both collaboratively and independently within a research team conducting research and producing publications and reports.
Location: Remote or 1320 Braddock Place, Alexandria, VA 22314
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hours/week, excluding Federal Holidays, weekends, and days when the office is officially closed.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Dietary Guidelines: The NESR Librarian is one of the lead librarians on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAC), responsible for creating systematic review search strategies. The Librarian works closely with analysts and Dietary Guidelines for Americans Committee members to help create complex search strategies using the analytic framework and inclusion and exclusion criteria to support the systematic review questions. Responsible for coordinating librarian peer-reviewed search strategies, translating the strategies to each database used. Maintain detail documentation of the search to ensure reproducibility and transparency of the search process. Collaborate with NIH librarian to conduct peer-reviewed search strategies, planning weekly librarian meetings, as well as attending DGAC Sub-Committee meetings. Help support editing and citing references using EndNote to the final DGAC and scientific reports.
- Skills: The NESR Librarian provides expertise in applying best practices using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA)protocol standards for reporting in systematic reviews and meta-analyses for evidence-based research. Librarian is skilled in performing comprehensive systematic reviews, conducting search strategies in biomedical, nutrition, and public health related databases primarily in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and CINAHLusing MeSH, Emtree, keyword, Boolean and proximity searches. In addition to database searches, the Librarian should also be experienced in searching grey literature on research topic areas and registering systematic reviews in Prosperodatabase.
- Documentation: In order to ensure that NESR literature searches are transparent and reproducible, all steps of the literature search, screening, and selection process are documented, and posted on NESR’s website. The Analyst and Librarian document the final search strategy and results, including: inclusion and exclusion criteria, search strings (e.g. search terms, filters, and limits) used for each electronic database searched.
- Software/Technical Expertise: Skilled in using EndNote, or other citation management software and systematic review screening software (e.g. DistillerSR, Covidence, and EPPI-Reviewer)
- Full-Text Retrieval: Responsible for retrieving full-text articles using USDA DigiTopdatabases, US National Library of Medicine DOCLINEand the National Agricultural Library(NAL) document delivery services.
- Liaison: Serves as the NESR Liaison to the USDA DigiTopLiaison Group supporting the USDA’s database/journal resource portal. DigiTop Liaisons meet monthly, reviewing resources as well as the research needs of users.
- NESR Committees: Participate in NESR and CNPP Committees, attending meetings and contributing to the process.
- Training & Professional Development: Stay current with research and systematic review trends and tools. Attend training webinars and tutorials when possible on performing systematic reviews, software (e.g. EndNote, DistillerSR…) and research methods.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must possess a Master’s degree or PhD in Library Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of directly relevant experience.
- Experience working in the Federal Government Environment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, and should be detail oriented and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office including Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio, etc.
