Parking Enforcement Officer Job at Dedham

Position Information:
The Town of Dedham is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Parking Enforcement Officer. Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the Parking Enforcement Officer enforces all parking rules and regulations. Performs administrative work related to tracking and filing of parking violations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Enforces all parking rules and regulations for the Town of Dedham.
  • Collects money from parking meters. Maintenance and accounting for all parking violations written both electronically and manually. Deposits the money collected from the meters with the Treasurer’s Office.
  • Assists with traffic duties and school crossing posts as required.
  • Maintains a general filing system.
  • Tracks and stores old tickets until the Registry approves their disposal.
  • Coordinates with the Parking Hearing Officer regarding ticket disputes. May occasionally participate in parking hearings.
  • Patrol assigned areas by vehicle and on foot, to ensure public compliance with parking ordinances
  • Issues violations or warnings for illegally parked motor vehicles using a handheld device or paper ticket book.
  • Maintains close communications with the Police Department using a two-way radio or cell phone
  • Enforcement of parking of commercial vehicles, resident permit parking, and any other violations of the parking ordinances.
  • Responds to and makes radio dispatch calls regarding parking violations and complaints.
  • Identifies vehicles in violation of parking ordinances, checks with Police Department when necessary to determine whether vehicles need to be ticketed or towed.
  • Observes and reports parking meters that need to be repaired and missing signage in relation to parking ordinances.
  • Maintains assigned equipment and supplies such as the handheld parking violation device and parking violation printer.
  • When approached, answers the public’s questions regarding parking regulations in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s license
  • 3 years of experience in customer service or related field
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule including two Saturdays per month and work one rotating evening from 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm during a two-week period

Pay: $25.69 - $34.00 per hour
