Pretest Technician
I. Position Description
· The Pretest Technician is trained to perform preliminary tests to prepare the patient for the examination with any of the physicians
· Responsible for daily patient care and flow
II. Minimal Qualifications
· High School Diploma
· Prior back office medical experience desired
· Must be 18 years of age or older
· Hepatitis B inoculation series
· Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs
III. Accountability
· Reports to the Pretest Supervisor/Administrator
· In the absence of the Pretest Supervisor/Administrator, report to the Rummel Eye Care (REC) Office Manager
IV. Job Responsibilities
· Promptly and professionally assists the doctor in patient care
· Performs technical workups, patient interviews, and special testing. To include:
· Chief complaint
· General medical history
· Ocular history
· Review of Systems
· Personal Health and Surgical History
· Have a working knowledge of FAA requirements
· Have a basic knowledge of ophthalmic medications
· Have basic knowledge of the most common ocular medical condition
· Ability to do basic trouble shooting in the event equipment fails.
· Maintains and cleans all equipment being used, and reports to supervisor if not in working condition
· Have basic knowledge of Compulink in order to interpret instructions/orders
· Understand pupillary defects and how the knowledge relates to the dilation of the patient
· Conducts and records various tests:
· Central visual acuity – distance, near and intermediate
· Confrontation fields
· Ocular tonometry
· Color vision
· Lensometry
· Auto Refractor
· Topography
· Brightness Acuity Tester (BAT)
· Retinometer
· Blood Pressure
· Urinalysis
· Height
· Weight
· Knows the location of emergency equipment throughout the office
· Interface with specialists using our office
· Be able to perform all duties in the Prescott and Prescott Valley office
· Assists in other assignments as requested by the supervisor
· Attends in services and staff meeting
· Complete the AAO Home Study Course in a timely manner
· Maintains patient confidentiality at all times, and communicates with the compliance officer regarding procedural changes and concerns

V. Minimum Demonstrated Skills
· Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications
· Utilizes proper eyedrop technique and sterility
· Utilizes proper universal precaution procedures
· Displays consistent professionalism
· Is energetic and empathetic with patients
· Consistently displays positive rapport with fellow employees
· Cooperates with supervisory staff and physicians
· Demonstrates flexibility in job assignments
· Takes pride and ownership in success and image of Rummel Eye Care
· Demonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goals
VI. Minimum Education Requirements
· High School Diploma or GED
VII. Minimum Background Requirements
· Position requires patient, physician and vendor contact; therefore, individual must exhibit pleasant manners, be professional in conduct, have the ability to listen and represent Rummel Eye Care standards of high efficiency and decorum.
· Good understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care
· Ability to communicate with patients, coworkers and supervisor
· Willingness to help in all areas and understand the need for efficient use of time
VIII. Physical Demands
· Must be able to communicate via phone
· Must have manual dexterity to work with ophthalmic equipment
· Must be able to stand, reach, bend and squat repeatedly during the day
· Must be able to view and type computer data
IX. Interpersonal Relationship
· Works as a team member of REC
· Considers orderliness of work areas, and treatment of equipment and supplies
· Is friendly, cheerful, neat, trustworthy and professional
· Know existing lines of communication and authority
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 per hour
