RECREATION LEADER – SENIOR CENTER

$15.50 - $18.84 per hour (19 hours per week)

DEFINITION
Under direction from the Senior Services Supervisor, assists Senior Services Coordinator and Senior Recreation
Leader in the delivery of the City’s recreation programs, senior activities, and special events; assists in
organizing and setting up recreational facilities, activity areas and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists in conducting and monitoring recreational program activities including senior services, special
event, and other recreational activities
  • Performs and delivers a variety of activities involved in senior recreation, transportation, and nutrition
programs.
  • Provides support to staff, instructors, and volunteers.
  • Enforces City regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists with setting up, taking down furniture, materials, and equipment.
  • Reports safety concerns, emergencies, or accidents in accordance with established procedures.
  • Administers First Aid as needed.
  • Responds to inquiries about facility usage, program, activity, and event specifics.
  • Operates City vehicles as required.
  • Conducts tasks in accordance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties including but not limited to answering telephones and assisting
customers
  • Assists in in maintaining recreational facilities by performing light custodial care.
  • May responsible for home deliver meals using a city vehicle.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in a community recreation program.
  • Policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct and safety of persons using the recreational
facilities and equipment.
  • First aid techniques.
  • Mandated reported processes.
• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with city staff, public groups, and other

agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:
One (1) year of experience, paid or volunteer, working with children, Seniors or community in recreational
settings.

Education:

  • Current enrollment in High School; must have a work permit and or graduation from High School or
GED equivalent.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate issued by an authorized agency or its equivalent within 90 days of
employment.

Additional Requirements/Information:
  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and proof of insurability.
  • May be required to drive a city vehicle to transport equipment.
  • May work weekends and holidays.
  • May require bilingual skills.


Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid California Class C driver’s license as assigned.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification issued by an authorized agency.

  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud when in the field.
