The Security Officer is a trusted partner in providing care, and support while providing services focused on safe, secure and service-focused environment for all patients, staff and visitors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitor conditions and activities while patrolling the grounds, parking lots and buildings. Ensure that relevant Health Center policies are followed and violations are reported. Anticipate, recognize and appraise security/safety risks and hazards and initiate action to reduce or remove them . Respond appropriately to a variety of potential and/or real emergencies, alarms and extraordinary events, e.g . patient standby/restraints, person with weapon, report to fire and building alarms, medical emergencies, etc. Representative of the facility in providing assistance and guidance to all patients, staff and visitors to the St. Mercy Mary Livonia campus. Responds to complaints generated by patients, staff and visitors, e.g. lost or stolen property, suspicious activity, improper access, etc. Responds to general assist calls generated by patients, staff and visitors, e.g. locking/unlocking doors, vehicle unlocks and jump starts, wheelchair assists, etc. Patrols campus and designated facilities to ensure safe environment and service focused. Completes a daily activity report documenting non-routine activities for referral to the appropriate person. Completes a written report following a complaint and/or investigation of unusual activity, documenting procedures taken and appropriate follow through. Performs monthly fire extinguisher checks. Maintains all security equipment in working condition. Assists the Reception staff, upon need or request by Security Leadership Issues parking permits upon request . Provides Escort Service when transporting deceased persons to the morgue. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision and Values of SJMH . Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Education: Requires high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Six to twelve months related experience preferred. Previous healthcare security and law-enforcement preferred.

Certification/Licensure: Current Basic Life Support (BLS); Active Driver's License in the State of Michigan
