How you'll have an impact at Paula's Choice: The Research & Innovation team leads the discovery and development of innovation and technology, and the creation of skincare development in our internal formulation lab and with external partners.
Product Development at Paula's Choice is R&D lead, starts with science and is driven by what is truly safe and effective for skin. As the Stability Chemist, you will help launch and shape our internal stability program. You will also manage all aspects of stability operations and ensure compliance with internal procedures, industry regulations, and regulatory guidelines.
If you have knowledge and understanding of GLP (Good Laboratorial Practices), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), USP/NF, FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and ICH guidelines as well as prior experience with stability program management and testing, we would love to hear from you!
As a Stability Chemist, a typical day might include a mix of the following:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and project manage all GMP and safety testing (conducted internally and externally).
- Evaluate stability and package compatibility samples for color, odor, texture, pH, viscosity, specific gravity, microbial analysis, and active degradation.
- Perform technical review of data and interpret data on tested components for the packaging engineers including bottles, tubes, pumps, foils, etc.
- Maintain records and prepare reports of stability and compatibility samples.
- Develop stability & compatibility protocols and reports for the lab.
- Ensure proper and prompt communication of stability & compatibility issues internally and externally as appropriate.
- Generate, update and manage SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) related to stability testing to comply with good laboratory practice, company directives, and regulations.
- Perform laboratory housekeeping duties and equipment calibration including water bath, pH meter, water system monitoring, and viscometer to ensure accuracy of measurements.
- Develop and execute stability-related process improvement initiatives.
- Stay current on all GMP, USP/NF, FDA and ICH guidelines for drug manufacturing, stability testing, etc.
- Interact with all departments involved in testing, approval, release, etc. of all products, ingredients, and components.
- Contribute to major stability investigations when deviations, out of specifications (OOS), and cross-functional problems arise during or after the production of products.
- Track testing costs for monthly budget reviews
- Ensure stability chamber organization, maintenance, and support
- Other duties may be assigned as considered appropriate by management
What you'll bring to the table:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related science field
- Experience in cosmeceutical, pharmaceutical or related industry in a laboratory setting, with knowledge of GLP, GMP and related compliance regulations and guidance
- Ability to interpret data, perform complicated analytical calculations and statistical analysis
- Must be able to communicate technical, scientific, and regulatory information, both written and verbally
- Must be able to work in a cross-functional environment to interact with multiple departments
- Prior experience in writing stability analysis and documentation
- Prior Stability experience with at least 2 years of direct hands-on work with Stability in a GMP laboratory
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office particularly in Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word

The details:
- Location: Seattle, WA corporate office.
- Hours: Typical PST (Pacific Standard Time) business hours, flexibility is available
- Physical requirements:
- Ability to lift 20lbs.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Bend, stoop, and carry
- Repeating motion that may include wrists, hands, and fingers
- Work Hours & Schedule: Exempt position Monday through Friday
- Travel requirements: Some travel to external testing labs
Approximate Salary Range Based on Experience and Location:
$80,000 - $100,00 USD/annually
Paula's Choice Skincare determines the pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external and internal equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.
For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. The exact base salary is determined by various factors including experience, skills, education, geographic location, and budget. This position is also eligible for participation in the company discretionary bonus plan.
