JOB TITLE: Storm and Sanitation Maintenance Driver - B EN12/NE11


DEPARTMENT: Engineering, City of Waycross


JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for performing installation and maintenance duties on storm drains, city streets, and concrete structures.


MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Drive and operate a vacuum/jet truck and use shovels, pitchforks, & other tools as needed to clean sanitary sewer pipes, manholes, storm drain pipes and catch basins
  • Perform routine maintenance activities to optimize vacuum/jet truck performance such as cleaning, lubrication, check/add fluids, drain water supplies as required
  • Clean drainage grates with shovels, pitchforks, rakes, & other tools
  • Patch potholes and street cuts with asphalt, concrete, and other materials
  • Assist with storm drain, concrete, and street repairs
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of safety procedures in operation of heavy equipment with moving parts
  • Knowledge of city and departmental policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of traffic safety rules, equipment, and procedures
  • Skill in using various hand and power tools
  • Skill in following instructions.


SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Street and Drainage Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of detailed and specific instructions. The supervisor reviews work in progress for accuracy and compliance with instructions and procedures.


GUIDELINES: Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures, safety guidelines, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are clear and specific.


COMPLEXITY: The work consists of directly related storm drain, street, and concrete installation and maintenance duties.


SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to maintain and assist with installation of storm drain pipes, catch basins, streets, and concrete. Successful performance in this position helps ensure proper function of the drainage system and minimize risks associated with storm drain backups and potholes.


PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers and other city employees.


PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to exchange information.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed outdoors. The employee is exposed to wastewater, noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional inclement weather. The work requires the use of safety devices such as ear plugs, masks, goggles, gloves, and appropriate footwear.


SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Class B or higher Georgia Driver’s License
  • No experience requirements.
