Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Counselor for the Office of Enrollment Management within The School of Health Professions. Under the supervision of the Director of Student Success and EOF the Student Development Specialist will support the Office of Enrollment Management/Academic Success by providing academic, financial, and career advisement; along with personal counseling to students. The Student Counselor will assist in the development, coordination, and conducting of personal/career/and academic seminars and evaluates the delivery of seminars and services to students in addition to other duties as assigned within the Office of Enrollment Management.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Assists the Office of Enrollment Management with various data collection and reporting with respect to the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Will provide academic, career, financial, and personal counseling on an individual & group basis to students through individual counseling sessions or group sessions.
  • Responsible for monitoring the academic progress of students through the use of monthly progress reports. The development specialist will meet with students and provides feedback regarding academic performance and will document each counseling sessions.
  • Responsible for maintaining student files and documents summary of counseling contacts on Counseling Contact forms. Sends counseling contact information to Staff Assistant for log completion of statistical reports.
  • Will conduct weekly and monthly outreach activities to students that fall below a 3.0 grade point average, are not meeting academic action plan participation requirements, and any student who is in violation of the University’s Code of Conduct policies.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Earned Master’s Degree in Counseling, Student Personnel Services, or closely related field plus two (2) years of administrative experience in a government agency, university setting, or large business office with responsibility for office management, preparation of reports and budgets, supervision of staff, etc.
  • Experience working with disadvantaged students, student recruitment, and financial aid are desirable.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be proficient in computer applications as required by the department.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a fast-paced; team oriented environment requirement.

Preferred Qualifications
  • (5) years of administrative experience in a government agency, university setting, or large business office with responsibility for office management, preparation of reports and budgets, supervision of staff, etc.

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
