The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Truck Driver 3 at the Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC). This individual will be responsible while working in the Motor Pool for the operation of trucks, vehicles, and heavy equipment and to lead and direct workers in the maintenance and repair of state vehicles and equipment. This recruitment will be used to be fill current and future vacancies, with an initial review of applications on November 28th, 2022.
The Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) is comprised of five units: Washington State Reformatory Unit (WSRU), Twin Rivers Unit (TRU), Minimum Security Unit (MSU), Special Offenders Unit (SOU) and the Intensive Management Unit (IMU). In all, MCC houses approximately 2,500 offenders and employs approximately 1,200 staff.

DUTIES:
The Truck Driver 3 is responsible to operate commercial vehicles rated at 26,000 Gross Combined Weight (GCW) or more, up to and including semi-tractor/trailer equipment. Operate with a trailer weighing 10,000 or more pounds. Perform, plan, lay out, schedule, direct and inspect work of incarcerated workers engaged in maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of vehicles, trucks and equipment at the complex in the support of the Department of Corrections (DOC) mission: To Improve Public Safety.
Key duties include:
Operate commercial vehicles rated at 26,000 Gross Combined Weight (GCW) or more, up to and including semi-tractor/trailer equipment. Operate with a trailer weighing 10,000 or more pounds.- Operate heavy garbage trucks rated at or above 50,000 GVW in the collection and disposal of refuse throughout MCC.
- Drive dump, cargo and flatbed trucks rated above 35,000 GVW for pickup and delivery of supplies and materials to and from MCC.
- Use equipment to load, unload and transport equipment, materials and supplies.
- Drive buses rated over 30 passenger capacity.
- Drive vehicles, trucks, vans
- Read maps, follow directions, identify, pickup, and deliver materials and supplies to and from vendors and suppliers.
- Operation of heavy construction equipment, i.e., dozers, trackhoe, backhoe, roller, high reach forklift, and skidsteer.
- Use plow equipment to apply sand, clear snow and ice.
- Perform daily vehicle pre-flight inspection, routine vehicle service, oil levels, lube, clean filters, change tires etc. Perform required cleaning and safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
- Load and unload cargo, direct staff and offender personnel doing the same. Lead work teams and crews working with cargo, garbage and recycling. Directs others in the loading and unloading of commercial vehicles.
- Handle, load, unload and transport hazardous materials as needed.
- Utilize computerized work order system, maintain vehicle records and logs.
- Plan, lay out, schedule, direct and inspect work of inmates engaged in maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles, trucks and equipment, prepare work schedules.
- Inspect and troubleshoot vehicle and equipment engine, suspension, mechanical, electrical, electronic components to diagnose issues accurately to maintain and repair.
- Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.). Repair or replace broken or worn parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks).
- Use current MCC procedures to hire and train offender workers as needed. Manage offender workers / crew including: hiring, training, evaluating and coaching; perform timely payroll and performance reviews. Supervise offender crews per DOC policy.
- Oversee MCC motor pool when the Equipment Tech Supervisor is absent. Including scheduling state vehicles, accounting for vehicles, keys, tools, building security. Provide customer service.
- Create purchase requests and order and inventory sufficient materials to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Create and respond to work orders as needed.
- Ensure personnel and facility are in compliance with safety and security procedures.
- Maintain shop equipment and tools in good condition
- Schedule maintenance sessions and advise motorists on good vehicle use
- Provide accurate estimates (parts/material, labor) for a repair or maintenance job
- Keep logs on work and issues: for example: tool, key and chemical accountability policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, safety programs, environmental, health and training regulations.
- Utilize facility technical library including schematics, O&M's and blueprints.
- Work around dangerous fluids, chemicals etc.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School graduate or GED
- Valid Washington State Commercial Driver's License with driving record free from serious or frequent traffic violations
- Two years of experience operating any combination of vehicles with a Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds and a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements as required by Federal law
- Successful completion of a recognized commercial driving school with two years of experience in a related mechanic / construction / maintenance position.
- Additional professional trade licenses
- Knowledge of computerized maintenance programs or software
- Experience in a correctional setting.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
