Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,200 individuals every day across seven campuses in Charlotte (up to 14 campuses in COVID). Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Volunteer Engagement Specialist is responsible for delivering an inclusive model of volunteer engagement that builds community and supports those served by Roof Above. Working collaboratively with program staff at SECU The Rise on Clanton, the person in this role will engage volunteers to coordinate and operationalize special programs, activities, events, and donation needs. The successful candidate in this position must deeply value our shared humanity, finding joy in creating connection points between those who volunteer for Roof Above and those served by Roof Above. This person must be detailed-oriented, embrace possibility and be flexible.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• In close partnership with program staff, develop, implement, and facilitate a wide range of programs and activities for SECU The Rise on Clanton to build community for tenants and engage the community in our work
• Create and operationalize a wide variety of meaningful volunteer activities that meet volunteers where they are in their interest level, their understanding of Roof Above’s work, and time commitment
• Serve as a key community builder, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for tenants, program staff, and volunteers
• Work with volunteers to arrange and organize all logistics for events and activities
• Develop effective communication methods and meaningful relationships with tenants
• Serve as a liaison with the communication team for a wide variety of items including but not limited to materials needed for tenants (i.e.- newsletter, invite to activities, etc.), photos, story gathering, etc.
• Serve at the liaison to facilities for all needs related to volunteer engagement taking place on campus

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Position requires evening and weekend work as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree with 1-2 years of experience in fundraising, communication, volunteer programming, program management or related field
• Experience in planning events and activities
• Creative and proactive in developing and operationalizing new ideas
• Detail oriented and organized with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Superior interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• A high level of flexibility for working during the evenings and on weekends

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position will be housed at SECU The Rise on Clanton.
Position requires being on-site most days.
