Correctional Industries (CI) within the Department of Corrections (DOC), is seeking highly motivated and qualified individuals to fill two (2) permanent Warehouse Operator 2 positions. These position are located at Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) in Monroe, Washington . The shift time for these position is 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Correctional Industries is committed to maintain and expand incarcerated worker training programs which develop marketable skills, instill and promote positive work ethics, and reduce the tax burden of corrections.
This position supports that objective by assisting in training and supervising incarcerated individuals in the day-to-day operations of the Correctional Industries Centralized Commissary operation. This position assists with maintaining security and control over incarcerated individuals working in the operation and assists in providing skills training to incarcerated workers in accordance with CI Legislative mandate.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Commissary Distribution:
- Ensure timely delivery of Commissary and Food Package orders to each living unit based on a set calendar schedule.
- Ensure each order is accurately distributed to the correct incarcerated individual within that particular unit, receipt is signed by the individual, retain a copy of receipt, and return to the warehouse for record retention.
- Provide each incarcerated individual the opportunity to verify the accuracy of their order, verify any discrepancies, follow standard processes and request any necessary refunds for items.
- Supervise and organize volunteer incarcerated individuals assisting with distribution.
- Answer incarcerated individual questions or concerns regarding orders, products, and the CI Programs or their processes.
- Participate in the warehousing operations of a large volume warehouse in all necessary functions.
- Open and close warehouse following standard procedures and DOC policies.
- Account for all keys, tools, equipment, and vehicles in and around the warehouse.
- Hire, train, supervise, and organize incarcerated worker crew in all aspects of warehousing and program operations. Track incarcerated worker hours accurately, implement pay raises in accordance with DOC policy and submit for monthly payroll. Document incarcerated worker behavior and preform intermittent work performance reviews when necessary. Maintain custody and control of assigned incarcerated workers, as required by policy.
- Communicate with truck drivers and freight companies by loading/unloading trucks and organizing shipments.
- Open, pack, unpack and inspect incoming and outgoing shipments and relocate warehouse commodities where needed.
- Practice good inventory control procedures, record maintenance, receiving, storing, ordering and distributing goods and services.
- Ensures shipments received are correct, in good condition, and contents match receiving documents as expected. Ensures outgoing shipments are properly packaged, labeled and safe.
- Safely operate forklifts, electric pallet jacks, cardboard baler and all other warehouse equipment.
- Receive and maintain any and all necessary certifications and training to operate equipment safely.
- Initiates procurement documents for supplies and submits to supervisor for review and final approval.
- Operate officer uniform exchange and oversee uniform inventory.
- Operate CI delivery vehicles when needed to ensure product delivery to MCC facilities and outside destinations.
- Participate in the maintenance, arrangement, and cleanliness of the warehouse facility and equipment.
- Assists in the planning and effective use of space and equipment.
- Complete all Department of Corrections and facility required training.
- Follow and document all safety and security procedures.
- Conduct and document area searches and safety inspections.
- Participates in the lean process and implements lean principles in process improvement, minimizing damage and waste, while maximizing efficiency.
- Identifies and suggests improvements.
- Monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and safe work practices.
Required qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license
- Basic computer experience, to include Microsoft Office literacy
- Physical ability to complete required duties
- One or more years of experience working in a warehouse environment
- One year experience in training warehouse workers in process and inventory
- Knowledge of commissary/warehouse systems.
- Experience working in a correctional facility or with incarcerated indidivuals.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check.
- Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service and other required training.
- Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the Department of Corrections.
- Become familiar and comply with all Department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
- Submit to drug testing in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement and agency policy.
- Must pass pre-employment drug test.
- Must Successfully complete CORE training for interaction with incarcerated persons.
- Ability to lift forty (40) pounds.
