The Warehouse Specialist (WHS) is responsible for performing various Hazardous Material (HM) management tasks in support of the DLA Chemical Management Services (CMS) Contract including material offloading, receiving and inspection, database entry, labeling, delivery, storage, inventory, and operation of Material Handling Equipment in accordance with the contract Performance Work Statement (PWS), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Process Instructions (PIs), CCAD-R 200-16, and all other applicable governing directives.

Warehouse Specialist

  • Responsible for transporting, receiving, handling, processing, packaging for unit of issue, storage or shipment hazardous material and accepting collection of hazardous waste for storage and pick-up.
  • Operates manual and power lifting devices, materials handling equipment, and motor vehicles to pick up or move materials.
  • Required to maintain a valid operator's license to perform these duties.
  • Works in a warehouse setting (indoor, sheds, and outdoors) or HDSC and is involved in handling hazardous materials that may be flammable, caustic, toxic and/or explosive.
  • Receives, stows, inventories, performs COSIS, selects, and delivers/provides hazardous material to designated customers.
  • Performs safety and operational checks on inventory of hazardous materials.
  • Checks hazardous material storage facilities and lockers to ensure proper storage, segregation, and physical separation of incompatible material.
  • Ensures that hazardous material that is transported and stored has proper identification labels and the labels include origin, waste information, dates, categories, and types of waste.
  • Uses HMIDS and other Government data systems to access databases for handling, processing, storing, and shipping requirements, and enters extensive information to update the database.
  • Inspects and makes initial identification and assessment of standard hazardous materials/to determine their nature (e.g., flammability, toxicity), and storage characteristics (e.g., repercussions of long-term storage).
  • Participates in the removal and clean-up of hazardous material spills that are considered housekeeping in nature.
  • Operates forklift trucks which are capable of lifting loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds and are primarily operated over concrete floors and are used to pick up, transfer, and store industrial waste and other types of hazardous material/waste.

Qualification Requirements

  • Must be a Citizen of the United States.
  • Must maintain a valid state driver’s license and clean driving record at all times.
  • Must pass criminal and financial background check and drug screening prior to hire and must be able to pass and sustain the DLA PSI background check criteria during the entire duration of their employment.
  • High School Diploma or an equivalent and a minimum of one year experience in controlling and managing, distributing and storing hazardous materials.
  • Must maintain excellent physical condition and be able to lift a minimum of 60 lbs. unassisted.
  • Required to provide and wear OSHA-compliant and serviceable protective footwear at all times.
  • Must possess acceptable computer operations and database entry skills.
  • Must possess acceptable interpersonal, organization, communication, and customer service skills.

Job Type: Full-time
