The Opportunity:
The world’s largest, most comprehensive aviation and aerospace university seeks a Writer for the University President. The Writer in this position must be a seasoned professional, routinely entrusted with privileged information, who can craft compelling, sophisticated narratives at a very high level while working effectively with a broad range of colleagues, from the University President and his team to an array of subject matter experts. The Writer will assist the Vice President for Communications in swiftly, effectively, confidentially responding to all Office of the President requests, whenever written content is needed. Writing and research tasks in support of the University President will include, as examples, a weekly Board of Trustees Update; speeches for commencements and high-level industry events; informal remarks to be delivered at employee gatherings; congratulatory letters and other correspondence; content for an annual State of the University address; draft op-eds; Trustees in the News items; marketing collateral; video scripts; talking points; an annual letter from the Chairman of the Board; and more.

The Writer will work in a fast-paced environment, working collegially alongside a diverse staff of proven communication professionals. This is a 30 hour position, offering both full benefits as well as flexibility for an outstanding Writer with a demonstrated track record of exceptional professionalism, effectiveness, dependability, and discretion. This is a hybrid position with both on campus responsibilities and ability to work from home. Selected candidate must live or be willing to relocate to the area and come on campus when needed. All finalists for this position will be required to submit a writing portfolio and complete a writing and editing exercise.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Respond quickly, effectively, and confidentially to all Office of the President requests for written content; work with the Vice President for Communications to fulfill all such requests in a successful, timely fashion. Collaborate in a collegial, confidential fashion with others, as needed, to fulfill all Office of the President requests within deadline.
  • Leverage advanced storytelling techniques to craft high-level, compelling narratives for the Office of the President, including speeches and remarks, correspondence, reports, marketing collateral, Trustees in the News items, video scripts, talking points, draft op-eds, an annual letter from the Chairman of the Board; and much more. This category of duties also includes a weekly email Update for the President to send to the Board of Trustees.
  • Conduct research to keep the President well-informed on industry matters; proactively identify and develop items for the university’s Trustees in the News webpage as well as any congratulatory letters for the President to send to industry contacts.
  • Working with appropriate colleagues, ensure that Embry-Riddle Leadership pages are always up-to-date and accurate.
  • Prepare Embry-Riddle News stories, particularly those related to Office of the President activities such as the annual State of the University address, upon request.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in communications, english, journalism, aviation/aerospace, science, engineering or other related field
  • Demonstrated experience with storytelling and writing in a professional setting, preferably have experience tackling science and engineering subjects
