Department Overview

The Research Grants Program Office (RGPO) oversees a broad grantmaking portfolio of over $100 million a year to support research that is critical to California, the nation and the world. RGPO programs enhance UC's research capacity and excellence, which helps attract top faculty, graduate students, government funding and companies to our state. These grants also enable health researchers and community agencies to collaborate and solve the most pressing problems in the state. RGPO also provides grants for training undergraduates, graduate and postdoctoral researchers, whose work will benefit California communities.

Position Summary

This TEMPORARY position through our Temporary Office of the President Staffing program (TOPS) involves developing, interpreting and implementing financial concepts for financial planning, resource planning (dollars), and control of organizational budget. May analyze and prepare recommendations for financial plans, including annual resource allocations, future requirements, and operating forecasts. Uses professional concepts. Applies organizational policies and procedures to resolve various issues. Works on problems of limited to moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of multiple factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Contacts are primarily internal to the department, but may also be external.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the post award payment process
  • Prepare and process interlocation transfer of funds for UC grantees, and check requests for non-UC grantees
  • Assist with the Project Portfolio Management (PPM) month close process in Oracle, payroll reconciliation, and the RGPO internal recharge process

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration or a related area and/ or equivalent experience/training
  • Has some knowledge of finance and accounting policies, practices, and systems
  • Strong attention to detail as demonstrated by ability to verify work to ensure accuracy
  • Strong Excel skills, including ability to independently modify and/or develop complex financial models
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with UC financial systems and applying UC budgetary/financial policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with fund accounting

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement within the state of California. OR

This position is eligible for a hybrid/remote work arrangement within the state of California. The selected candidate must reside within the state of California, or be willing to relocate, and will be required to report to work in person in Oakland, CA on a regular schedule.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the salary grade for a position.
